Views of the landscape from this rebuilt home were a major guiding force in the design of these outdoor spaces. Large picture windows removed the barrier between home and yard allowing the two spaces to become one. An offset grid of grasses in the front yard is punctuated with low water plants including nolina, hardy aloe, and hoja santa. A large steel planter, filled with orange roses, gives height to an otherwise flat yard while also providing a visual screen to the large kitchen window. Two seating areas are created from one large patio. A floating screen is planted with blooming vines on the smaller master patio and shrimp plant in the larger entertaining space. Mexican olives and Mountain Laurels provide a focal point from the main sight lines, inside the main house across a lush lawn. This airy landscape provides a calming space just blocks away from Austin’s bustling Allendale shops.
